Habeck: Germany Will Not Abandon Ukraine Even if U.S. Withdraws Assistance
Berlin: If former U.S. President Donald Trump wins the upcoming election and opts to halt military aid to Ukraine, Germany will maintain its support for Kyiv, according to German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck.
“Yes, we will not abandon Ukraine in that situation,” Habeck said in an interview with the Funke media group when asked if Germany would attempt to compensate for any aid the U.S. might withdraw under a Trump administration.
Habeck acknowledged that the absence of American support would impact Ukraine but suggested that it would push remaining allies to collaborate even more closely.
He emphasized that Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine remains steadfast and unconditional, addressing concerns over reports of decreased German aid to Kyiv.
In response, Russia has argued that the continued supply of arms to Ukraine hampers conflict resolution and implicates NATO countries in the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov asserted that the U.S. and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, not only by supplying weapons but also by training Ukrainian personnel in European countries.
